How to Capture Useful POIs (Not Noise)

Effective POI documentation captures decision-relevant information, not everything you see.

Read time: 4 min

A good POI answers the question: "Does this affect the feasibility, legality, or execution of the move?"

**POIs That Matter** - Clearance restrictions (actual limitations) - Weight restrictions (bridges, road segments) - Geometry constraints (curves, grades, intersections) - Staging and turnaround locations - Fuel and services (for planned stops) - Emergency services (for incident response)

**POIs That Are Noise** - Every bridge that's not a constraint - Landmarks for navigation (use route directions instead) - "Nice to know" observations without operational impact - Duplicate documentation of the same constraint

**Quality Standards** Each POI should include: - Precise location (GPS coordinates) - Clear classification (type of constraint) - Quantified data where applicable (height, weight, radius) - Photo documentation - Notes on any uncertainty or conditions

Less is more when the less is accurate and relevant.
