Route Intelligence Professional Certification
Establishing standards for OS/OW route planning and survey
The Route Intelligence Council is developing a professional certification program for the oversize/overweight transport industry. This program establishes recognized credentials for practitioners engaged in route planning, field survey, and constraint analysis. Certification does not replace experience — it validates that experience against a defined standard.

Certification Tracks
Two credentials for practitioners at different stages of their route intelligence career.
Route Intelligence Certified Planner
Recognizes competency in desktop route analysis, constraint interpretation, route optimization, and documentation. RCRP holders are qualified to perform Steps 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7 of the Route Intelligence Method.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, geography, logistics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 2 years professional experience in route planning or transportation
- Completion of Council-approved RCRP preparatory program
- Two professional references attesting to competency and character
- Written examination (3 hours), case study analysis (4 hours), oral examination (1 hour)
- Passing threshold: 70% overall, minimum 60% on each component
Renewal
3-year cycle requiring 30 hours continuing education, evidence of active practice, and good standing

Fees
Route Intelligence Certified Surveyor
Recognizes competency in field survey execution, measurement techniques, data collection, and constraint documentation. RCRS holders are qualified to perform Step 3 of the Route Intelligence Method.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification preferred
- Minimum 1 year field survey, measurement, or related technical work
- Completion of Council-approved RCRS preparatory program
- Ability to perform field work safely (vision, mobility, stamina)
- Two professional references attesting to competency and character
- Written examination (2 hours), practical field examination (4 hours), safety assessment (1 hour)
- Passing threshold: 70% overall, minimum 60% on each component
Renewal
2-year cycle requiring 20 hours continuing education, evidence of active field practice, current equipment calibration records, and good standing

Fees
Code of Professional Conduct
All certified practitioners are bound by a professional code that establishes ethical and professional obligations.
Professional Responsibility
Practitioners shall perform services only in areas of their competence and maintain current knowledge of applicable standards.
Accuracy and Honesty
Practitioners shall provide accurate, complete, and honest representations. Data shall not be falsified, fabricated, or selectively omitted.
Safety and Public Impact
Practitioners shall give paramount consideration to safety and refuse work that poses unreasonable risk to public safety.
Data Integrity and Traceability
Practitioners shall maintain complete records, preserve raw data, and ensure traceability from source to deliverables.
Confidentiality
Practitioners shall maintain confidentiality of client information except as authorized or required by law.
Conflicts of Interest
Practitioners shall disclose circumstances that may constitute a conflict of interest and recuse when objectivity cannot be assured.
Duty to Disclose Uncertainty
Practitioners shall clearly communicate uncertainty in measurements, analyses, and recommendations.
Violations may result in formal reprimand, mandatory remedial education, suspension, or permanent revocation of certification.

Enrollment Opening in 2025
Certification enrollment is not yet open. The Route Intelligence Council is completing final validation of the Route Intelligence Method, examination development, and administrative infrastructure. Enrollment is expected to open in 2025.
