Turn Direction Capture & Export

Capture turn directions in the field, display them as chips in the office, and include them in every export and report.

Why Turn Directions Matter

Turn-by-turn directions for OS/OW moves are not just navigation โ€” they are part of the permit package and the Driver Briefing. Accurate, field-verified turn directions at intersection POIs help drivers execute the planned route precisely and give permit offices the route description they need.

Capturing in the Field App

When you add or edit an intersection POI in the Field App, a turn-direction selector appears with four options: Left, Right, Straight, and U-Turn. Tap the correct direction to record it against the POI. The direction is synced to the office in real time.

Geometry-Derived Fallback

If no field value has been recorded, RoadScope infers the turn direction from the route geometry โ€” calculating the bearing change at the waypoint closest to the POI. Geometry-derived directions are shown with a lighter indicator to distinguish them from field-verified values.

Turn-Direction Chips in the Office

In the POI list and on the POI popup, turn directions appear as colour-coded chips:

  • **Blue** โ€” Left turn
  • **Green** โ€” Straight
  • **Orange** โ€” Right turn
  • **Red** โ€” U-Turn
  • Export & Reports

  • **CSV / Excel** โ€” A Turn Direction column is included in all POI exports
  • **Turn-by-Turn Report** โ€” Each intersection entry now includes the turn-direction chip, a route-map segment image, and a photo thumbnail from the POI record
  • **Driver Briefing PDF** โ€” Turn directions appear in the sequential hazard log alongside the constraint description
  • Correcting a Direction

Edit the POI in either the Field App or the office map view and change the turn direction. The correction propagates immediately to all reports and exports.
