Rail Miller Module

OS/OW rail clearance management, community rail constraint search, and jurisdiction rail rules โ€” in one place.

What Is the Rail Miller Module?

The Rail Miller Module is a dedicated OS/OW rail clearance management workspace accessible from Tools > Rail Miller. It consolidates rail crossing documentation, community constraint data, and jurisdiction-specific rail rules into a single panel alongside your route map.

Rail Crossing Documentation

Add any rail crossing on your route as a structured Rail Miller POI. Record the railway authority, crossing type (at-grade, overpass, underpass), measured vertical and horizontal clearances, and any special permit or flagging requirements.

Community Search Tab

The Community Search tab lets you query anonymized rail constraint records contributed by other RoadScope users. Filter by corridor, rail line name, or geographic bounding box to find what others have measured on the same crossing โ€” without any identifying information being shared.

OS/OW Rail Rules Reference Library

The Rules Library tab contains jurisdiction-specific OS/OW rail rules organized by province and US state:

  • Minimum clearance thresholds for at-grade crossings
  • Weight and axle load limits over railway bridges
  • Flagging and advance notice requirements by railway authority
  • Special permit triggers (live rail, electrified sections, high-speed rail corridors)
  • Integration with the Route Map

Rail Miller POIs appear on the main route map alongside all other constraint types. They participate in the Overhead Clearance Cross-Check and contribute to the Full Report bridge and clearance inventory table.
