Two Source Types
RoadScope integrates both static and real-time data sources. Understanding the difference is important for accurate route planning.
Static Sources
Static sources are downloaded periodically and cached locally:
- **Cache duration:** 7 days (stored in IndexedDB)
- **Examples:** NBI, SolTecCAN, SolTecDE, SolTecFR, SolTecDOT
- **Use for:** Planning-phase bridge analysis, constraint screening, permit documentation
- **Currency note:** Data reflects the last update from the source agency. Always verify critical constraints with field survey.
Real-Time Sources
Real-time sources are fetched live and cached briefly in memory:
- **Cache duration:** 10 minutes (memory only — cleared on page refresh)
- **Examples:** SolTecON (Ontario 511), SolTecNL (NDW Netherlands)
- **Use for:** Current construction zones, temporary closures, active events
- **Currency note:** Reflects conditions at time of last fetch. Re-load the page or wait for cache expiry to get the latest.
Forcing a Refresh
To force a refresh of static cached data, go to **Settings > Data Sources** and click **Refresh Cache** for the desired source. This forces a fresh download from the source agency.
Data Currency Indicators
RoadScope displays a data currency timestamp for each active source in the map legend. Check this before relying on any source for live operational decisions.
