Understanding Constraints

Constraints are the physical and regulatory limitations that affect route feasibility. RoadScope organizes constraints into categories for systematic analysis.

Constraint Categories

**Vertical Constraints** — Overhead obstacles that limit load height: bridges, overpasses, utility lines, signs.

**Horizontal Constraints** — Width limitations: lane widths, median barriers, guardrails, narrow structures.

**Geometric Constraints** — Turning limitations: intersection geometry, curb radius, approach angles.

**Grade Constraints** — Slope conditions: steep grades, transitions, surface conditions.

**Regulatory Constraints** — Non-physical limitations: permit requirements, time restrictions, escort needs.

Maintaining Accuracy
