What Is the 3D Digital Twin?

The 3D Digital Twin is a photorealistic 3D map view that combines your route, POIs, and uploaded 3D models into a single terrain-anchored scene. Use it for site visualization, staging area planning, overhead clearance staging reviews, and client presentations.

Accessing the 3D View

Open the 3D tab from any project map. RoadScope switches to the 3D terrain view and loads any models you have already placed on the project.

Uploading a GLB Model

1. In the 3D view, click Add Model

2. Upload a GLB file (plain format β€” no Draco or WebP textures)

3. RoadScope auto-grounds the model at the correct altitude for its footprint

4. Drag the model to its real-world GPS position, then set orientation and lock it in place

CAD-to-GLB Conversion

Submit a DXF or IFC file via Tools > Convert to 3D Model. RoadScope converts the file to an optimized GLB and returns it ready for placement β€” no CAD software required on your end.

Global 3D Model Library

Browse the Global 3D Model Library from the 3D view sidebar. Community-contributed OS/OW structures (portal frames, bridge clearance frames, staging fixtures) can be placed on your map with a live preview before you commit.

Two-Point Measurement

Open the Measure tool from any model card and click two points on the model to get the straight-line distance between them. Displayed in your workspace unit (ftβ€² inβ€³, feet, or metres).

Level-of-Detail (LOD) Streaming

Large models automatically swap to a low-detail copy when the 3D camera is more than ~1 500 m away, and swap back to high detail when the camera moves within 900 m. This keeps the viewport smooth on any hardware.

Per-Model Controls

  • **Hide/Show** β€” Toggle individual model visibility without removing the model
  • **Fly To** β€” Jump the 3D camera directly to the model from the POI card or sidebar list
  • **Rename / Delete** β€” Right-click the model in the sidebar for quick actions
